Empowering Tomorrow's Voters , Teachers Take the Stage: Street Play Raises Election Awareness at JNV Williamnagar

In a spirited endeavor to cultivate a sense of civic responsibility and political awareness among students, teachers of JNV Williamnagar orchestrated an enlightening street play titled "Matdata Jagrukta Karyakram" on 19 th April 2024, on the occasion of the polling day in Meghalaya. This innovative initiative aimed to acquaint students with the intricacies of the electoral process. Drawing parallels between the present-day electoral system and historical regimes,  the audience was transported on a journey through time, as the play skillfully juxtaposed the Mughal and British colonial eras with modern-day democracy. Through imaginative storytelling and vivid characters, the teachers intricately wove together the threads of history and politics, illuminating the evolution of governance and civic participation. The highlight of the performance was the portrayal of contrasting behaviors exhibited by political leaders, depicted through imaginary characters. Before the elections, the netas (political leaders) were portrayed as charismatic and promising figures, showering the people with lofty assurances and extravagant promises. However, post-election, their demeanor transformed, revealing their true colors as indifferent and self-serving individuals, indifferent to the needs of the electorate.
Led by the incharge of Youth Parliament, Mr. Shivam Gupta, (PGT History),  the initiative aimed to harness the collective talents and expertise of the school's teaching faculty including some marvellous performance by Mr. Rajkamal Bairwa ( TGT Hindi), Ms. Tumpa Saha ( TGT Librarian), Ms. Disha Yadav ( TGT PET), Mrs. Manisha ( TGT Maths), Mr. Madhumangal Biswas ( PGT English), Dr. Manoj Debnath ( PGT Geography), Mr. Purnendu Shanki( PGT Physics) to deliver a compelling and informative performance. As the street play drew to a close,  principal sir Mr. Ravi Kant took to the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech. He urged the students to seize the opportunity to enroll themselves in the Youth Parliament . He concluded his speech with a poignant and self-composed poem, expressing the spirit of democracy and the power of collective action. The success of the Matdata Jagrukta Karyakram at JNV Williamnagar paves the way for a more vibrant and participatory democracy, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
