To promote traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage, PMSHRI JNV Williamnagar, conducted a one-day workshop on Garo Traditional Bamboo Crafts in the MP Hall as part of the Heritage Club PMSHRI Activities. The session was led by Mrs. Priyanka Zade, TGT English and Heritage Club Incharge.
Mr. Samay Sangma , an expert artisan in bamboo crafts was
invited to the workshop to teach students of Classes VII to IX how to create various articles from bamboo. The students actively participated, gaining hands-on experience in bamboo craftsmanship. They learned about different techniques and skills involved in traditional bamboo craft-making, enhancing their practical knowledge and appreciation for indigenous art forms.Through this initiative, students gained practical knowledge and an appreciation for the artistry involved in traditional Garo bamboo crafts.The workshop also emphasized the economic potential of bamboo craft as a sustainable livelihood. The artisan shared insights on how skilled artisans can earn up to ₹60,000 per month, showcasing bamboo craft as a sustainable and lucrative profession.
Such initiatives by PMSHRI JNVWilliamnagar, play a crucial role in preserving indigenous traditions while equipping students with skills that can lead to self-reliance and entrepreneurship. The event was a valuable learning experience that inspired students to consider traditional crafts not only as a cultural art form but also as a potential career path.
