On August 24, 2024, teachers of PMSHRIJNVEGH participated in an online training session on the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023. The training took place in the smart lab from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, with Mr. Brajesh Singh Principal JNV West Khashi Hills serving as the resource person.12 teachers from PMSHRIJNV EGH, along with Principal Sir Mr. Ravi Kant, attended the session in the smart lab.
The training included a focus on broad curricular design and the aims of school education. Five teachers who were on weekly of participated individually, while the remaining faculty members joined collectively. Mr. Singh's presentation centered on two pivotal concepts: competency-based learning and experiential learning. He emphasized that students benefit greatly from learning through hands-on experiences and practical application. This approach, he argued, enhances understanding and retention by allowing students to engage directly with the material. In addition to experiential learning, he highlighted the importance of holistic development as outlined in the NCFSE 2023. He introduced the 360-degree model of education, which aims to develop comprehensively across academic, emotional, social, and ethical dimensions.
Mr. Singh discussed the need to integrate value education into the curriculum. This approach aims to foster holistic development by embedding ethical and moral values within the learning process. The training covered practical strategies for implementing bagless activities in schools. These activities are designed to reduce the physical burden of traditional educational materials and encourage more interactive and experiential learning.
The training also covered the three primary types of assessment as defined by NCFSE:
Assessment of Learning (Summative Assessment) assesses what students have learned at the end of an instructional period, typically through exams or final projects.
Assessment for Learning (Formative Assessment) focuses on monitoring student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can help improve their performance.
Assessment as Learning: involves students evaluating their own learning progress, fostering self-awareness and personal growth.
Mr. Singh urged teachers to adopt project-based and hands-on learning approaches, enhancing students' learning experiences through practical application.
One of the core topics was the Panchpadi or five-step learning process, which provides a structured framework for classroom instruction. The five phases are: Aditi (Introduction): Introducing new concepts.Bodh (Conceptual Understanding):Developing a deeper understanding of concepts. Abhyas (Practice): Engaging in practice to reinforce learning. Prayog (Application): Applying concepts in real-world contexts.
Prasar (Expansion): Expanding and integrating knowledge.
The session concluded with Mr. TVS (AC Shillong RO) summarizing the main topics and providing guidance on implementing competency-based and experiential learning in line with the NCFSE. He emphasized the importance of implementing the discussed strategies. Teachers were encouraged to incorporate experiential learning, value education, and the Panchpadi framework into their teaching practices. The training underscored the need for effective timetable and subject allocation, as well as the utilization of various assessment types to enhance educational outcomes.
Overall, the session aimed to equip teachers with the necessary tools and understanding to align their practices with NCFSE 2023, fostering a more engaging and comprehensive learning environment.
